Play and learn as you follow your curiosity and share your potential via learning games all over Australia. Game-based learning Australia is place for educators and learners to share their games, their discoveries and their achievements.
We aim to be a community rich with enthusiasm and will to positively shape the future of learning in Australia using engaging social games. Interactive games that teach life-skills, 21st Century Skills and can be incorporated into a blended learning experience that fits will core Australian curriculum.
This article on Game-based learning explains it pretty well. GBL uses competitive exercises, either pitting the students against each other or getting them to challenge themselves in order to motivate them to learn better. Games often have a fantasy element that engages players in a learning activity through a story-line. In order to create a truly educational game, the instructor needs to make sure that learning the material is essential to scoring and winning.
Badges & Achievements
I’ve created a series of virtual badges based on 21st Century skills that you can use via this website to award to your students. Simply register here and create a group for your class. This ca be a private members only group, As you are the creator administrator for this group you can award badges for student achievement. Get in touch if you have any questions. *The badges are a work in progress.
I’m in the latter stages of creating and publishing a location aware game called Passion Quest. Educators, feel free to get in touch if you would like to try this out with the young people you work with in the new year.
Students, I can set you up a game to play test over the summer holidays. Just ask. Requirements: iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mobile Internet, GBS or WIFI enabled devices. Your own mobile/data plan. I’ll share the apps and docs and help you get playing.
